Description
The coil cross-section of this evolved species is initially round, with increasing development somewhat less high than wide, sometimes flattened on the flank. The umbilical wall is steep, the umbilical edge rounded.
The innermost turn is smooth, followed by indistinct nodules or low, broad ribs. A characteristic nodule stage as in Psiloceras is not present. These low ribs merge into relatively broad but high ribs, which stand radiate to slightly proradiate. In larger specimens the ribs start slightly proradiate at the umbilical wall, cross the flank with a slight backward bend and turn forward again on the outer part of the flank. They look slightly s-shaped.
Remarkable is the large number of ribs, at least 40 on the outer coil with a diameter of 50mm. The lobe line is symmetrical.

Compare
The consistently round cross-section of the coils and the large number of ribs make this species unmistakable. Very small specimens can be confused with wide-bodied variants of Waehneroceras waehneri.
