Dipl. Geol. Kurt Kment
Who I am and what I want
My name is Kurt Kment, born in Bad Tölz in 1970, and I have been fossil hunting since Thomas was born. Since then, geology has been THE fascinating science for me. You have to deal with unimaginable periods of time! There is a direct connection between today's landscape and the geological conditions underground. Why do trees grow here and not over there? Moors, lakes, streams ... everything can be explained on the basis of a geological map. Even the good mushroom hunting grounds :). And of course the fossils from the long past ages of the earth. You quickly realise: we are all just a very small light on the stage of the Earth's history.
My aim with this homepage is to pass on our knowledge about the fossils of the alpine Hettangian. Very few people have dealt with this rare fauna so far and so there are only very few works about it. Through decades of experience in various outcrops, however, some mysteries are gradually being solved and new insights - especially concerning stratigraphy - are emerging. Here we continue to think and research. In any case, my main goal with this project is to appear as scientific as possible. Of course, the main focus is on systematics and related biostratigraphy.
What I usually do
In my spare time, palaeontology is actually one of my favourite activities. I have a lot to do with planning and carrying out the collection excursions, preparing and processing the finds. But besides that, my family is more important. A warm evening at the lake or at home with a cold beer - what could be better? The fossils can wait for a while. Add to that endurance sports, which keep you healthy and fit - even for tapping stones. All these activities can be combined quite well from time to time. In the alpine Hettangian, the paths are often very long ... Like Thomas, I am also a nature lover. Hunting for mushrooms, harvesting vegetables and fruit, that never gets boring.
My professional career
After my Abitur and the Bundeswehr, I studied geology (with a focus on palaeontology) in Munich. Instead of a doctorate, I started a family and, as life goes, I have been earning my money for over 15 years in the timber industry instead of with stones. I only practise my learned profession in my spare time and have already built up an interesting network. Other collectors, palaeontologists, interested forestry officials, alpine rangers etc. have grown very close to my heart and contribute greatly to the success of this project. They are also the target group of this homepage.
I am happy about any interest, especially of course of our alpine Hettangian! Unfortunately, it is not possible to convey geology in its entirety with this project. But take a hammer and let's go - it's inspiring!

Thomas Ludwig
Who I am and what I want
Servus, my name is Thomas Ludwig, born in 1987 at the beautiful Tegernsee, himself a passionate fossil and mineral collector and one of the two faces of hettangium.de besides Kurt.
Personally, I would like to convey knowledge and experience as well as joy and motivation with this project - both for you as a visitor and for myself. In addition, it is my concern to support Kurt technically in order to process and present his years of experience and his comprehensive knowledge here on hettangium.de in a fair way.
The interest in fossils and minerals began for me in my earliest childhood days and has always accompanied me on my way. Above all, I am incredibly grateful for all the quiet moments in nature at the often secluded places ... here I find myself and I am always on the road with a little smile and simply satisfied ... and if you then get to make a great find, even more so :).
What I usually do
Apart from fossil and mineral hunting, I also prefer to spend my time outdoors in nature - mountain hiking, mushroom hunting, mountain biking ... nature is the best way for me to find and maintain my inner balance. When I'm not outdoors, I also like to play the guitar, do sports, sit at the computer or read a good book or educate myself in all kinds of subjects.
My professional career
After my middle maturity I trained as an IT systems electronics technician and spent the first three years of my career in the installation service for the medical technology sector (hardware and software integration, medical technology connection, etc. for doctors' surgeries and hospitals).
For more than ten years now, I have been working in a growing IT company in a really great team and working environment. My field of activity as a technical manager covers a comprehensive spectrum - mainly training and development of my team, personnel management, technical/project management and coordination, as well as the development of technical and logical systems, structures and standards for internal and external use.
