Description

The cross-section of the windings is highly oval with curved flanks, the largest winding width is measured in the middle of the flank. The umbilical drop is conspicuously tightly rounded, canted. The external side is evenly rounded. The area between the edge of the umbilicus and the middle of the flank appears flattened or slightly dented. The umbilical wall is vertical and hardly curved.
The case is smooth, strongly s-shaped accretion stripes are visible in good condition.
The exact ammonite horizon of this species is not (yet) known. It is also possible that it is quite long-lived. It is certain that it occurs clearly above S. aulonotum together with Megastomoceras megastoma. P. uermoesense can grow quite large.

Compare

Shistophylloceras aulonotum is very similar in the winding conditions. However, this species has the external furrow on the stone core. Furthermore, according to Lange (1952) there are three quite essential differences in S. aulonotum:
- the flanks are less curved with the greatest thickness near the navel
- the flanks are not flat or slightly dented near the navel and the drop of the navel is more rounded, not strongly angulated
- the growth strips are less strongly S-shaped (although this can be a sign of age).
