Species | Neophyllites imitans LANGE |
Author | LANGE |
Group | Psiloceraten |
Horizon | calliphyllum-horizon |
Zone | calliphyllum-zone |
Stage | Lower Hettangian |
Description
The inner coils of Neophyllites imitans are less evolute than the outer ones. The flanks are slightly convex and slope towards the navel. The coils are almost completely smooth, only very rarely are flat, wide ribs present. The simplified lobe line is characteristic. The suspensory lobes are not inclined backwards, as it is characteristic for the genus Psiloceras. The species was described in detail by LANGE (1941). Neophyllites has no nodule stage!

Compare
Very similar is N. neumayri, which also occurs in the alpine Hettangian. However, this one is more wide-nerved and does not show the oblique umbilical drop. N. imitans, in contrast to N. neumayri, is almost always smooth (unribbed or with a few flat, straight ribs). N. neumayri occurs in the Calliphyllum Bed together with Psiloceras calliphyllum because of the strong condensation. It is probably somewhat younger (VON HILLEBRANDT & KMENT 2015).
