Description
D. toxophorum has a highly oval winding cross-section with flat flanks and a distinct umbilical edge. The external side is narrowly rounded, almost sharpened.
After a distinct nodule stage, numerous, strong ribs begin to run radially across the flanks, bend sharply forward near the exterior and then -weakened- unite externally.
In contrast to other discamphicerates, these ribs are very numerous and can be followed for a long time. With somewhat larger shells, irregularities in the ribbing or split ribs may occur.
D. toxophorum is so far only known with medium-sized specimens. Diameters of 100mm are rather rare.

Compare
D. toxophorum differs from other discamphicerates by the flat flanks and the extremely dense ribbing with a small navel width.
Confusion with species of the Storthoceras/ Megastomoceras group is not possible.
