Description
After a clear nodule stage, radially standing, low ribs begin, which just cross the flanks and bend forward near the external side and extinguish. The larger the cases become, the more the forward bending of the ribs disappears. What remains are radial, low folds. The winding cross-section is oval with curved flanks and a broadly rounded external side. Like all Megastomoceras, the species grows very large.

Compare
M. megastoma, with very similar dimensions, differs from St. haploptychum and M. anisophyllum by the radial and low ribs. The lobe line is exceedingly branched.
