Description
A very strong nodule stage is formed on the innermost visible 1-2 coils. After that, the convolutions become smooth, the only sculpture being low, irregular, crescent-shaped, forward-sloping accretion stripes. The stone core shows clear constrictions on the coils after the nodule stage. The highly rectangular winding cross-section with clearly flattened flanks and semicircular outer side is characteristic.
Another remarkable feature is the strikingly thick shell.

Compare
Identical in growth is Euphyllites struckmanni, which, however, is strongly ribbed. E. waehneri is clearly distinguishable from all other ammonites in the lower Hettangian by its flat and smooth flanks.
